{Another blog post transferred over from the old site… Enjoy!}
I recently completed an ‘are you ready?’ survey for hurricane season. There were questions ranging from having enough supplies, to how will you communicate, to what are your contingency plans for evacuation. All of these readiness questions got me thinking about contingency planing for trainers.
Are we prepared for the unexpected? What would we do if we couldn’t reach our training class location? Or something happened during class?
I’m not just thinking about dramatic events and natural disasters, but every day occurences that might get in the way of our ability to deliver a training class.
Here’s a quick contingency checklist for a classroom trainer:
-
Do you have morning-of-class emergency contact info for your training coordinator or location contact?
-
Do they have morning-of-class emergency contact info for you?
-
Do you have all of your training notes and files backed up in a secure location? Both printed and on a portable storage drive?
-
What supplies do you carry with you to every class? Do you have absolutely everything you need to conduct the class, without relying on what might (or might not) be in the classroom?
-
What would you do if there were an emergency during class? Who would you contact? What procedures would you follow?
Granted, the appropriate answers to these questions will vary depending upon your unique situation. However use them to ask yourself “are you prepared?”
What other questions would you add to this list?
